　　Dissertation

　　Dissertation 是指论文的意思，那么这个词和我们常见的paper这个词有什么区别呢？可以一起来看一下。

　　-a long piece of writing on a particular subject, especially one that is done as a part of a course at college or university 专题论文；学位论文

　　*e.g. Ann did her dissertation on Baudelaire.安的论文写的是波德莱尔。

　　-同义词：essay, paper, thesis

　　*essay: a short piece of writing on a particular subject, especially one done by students as part of the work for a course （尤指学生写的作为课程作业的）短文，论说文

　　*paper: an essay written by a someone who has studied a subject as part of their research. (especially in American English)

　　*thesis: a very long essay that is part of an advanced university degree such as a mas-ter's degree or a doctorate 论文（硕士，博士）

　　look through sth/sb

　　好多同学觉得这里是「视线穿过某物/某人」的意思，导致理解的偏差

　　-to look for something among a pile of papers, in a drawer, in someone's pockets etc 逐一查看… = go through

　　*e.g. I've looked through all my papers but I still can't find the contract.

　　其次，「look through」还可以表示「无视某人」，大家可以看一下其解释，或许在日后的口语话题中能够活学活用

　　-to not notice or pretend to not notice someone you know, even though you see them => look straight/right through somebody

　　*I saw Fiona in the street yesterday and she looked straight through me.

　　这是一个非常口语话的表达方式，记得用在自己的口语中哦

　　get hold of sth

　　这也是一个非常口语话的表达方式

　　-(informal) to get something that is rare or difficult to find

　　*e.g. I'm trying to get hold of a ticket for the game.

　　to the point

　　这是一个简单但又十分地道的表达，如果要用在写作中的话，其同义词是个很好的积累

　　-expressed in a simple, clear way without any extra information or feelings 简明恰当；简洁中肯（形容词短语）

　　*The letter was short and to the point. 这封信简短扼要。

　　-SNY pertinent (formal)

　　*relating directly to the subject being considered 有关的，直接相关的

　　*a pertinent question/remark切中要害的问题／评论

　　note something ? down

　　-to write something down so that you will remember it

　　*Note down the main points you want to include in your essay.

　　embark on/upon something

　　-to start something, especially something new, difficult, or exciting 开始，着手做（新的或重要的事情）
