雅思考试中阅读部分的文章主要包括学术报告、人物生平、历史记录等说明性文章，这类文章不同于文学阅读，不需要去推敲其修辞和寓意，搜寻信息是阅读说明性文章的重点。因此，读懂文章大意最为重要，文章由段落组成，而段落或句子的大意主要由主谓宾去传达。所以我们要将阅读重点放在主谓宾上，这样既能够抓住大意又能节约时间，提高阅读速度。

　　举个例子，请看这句话：Passive smoking, the breathing in of the side stream smoke from the burning of tobacco between puffs or of the smoke exhaled by a smoker, also causes a serious health risk.

　　如果同学们逐字去看的话会被很多生词所困扰，看完一句话反而什么不清楚这句话到底在讲什么。所以我们来抓这句话的主谓宾：主语是Passive smoking，谓语是causes，宾语是health risk。那么这句话的意思就很明显了--被动吸烟引发健康危险。而中间the breathing....risk 这一部分是同位语，和passive smoking 有相同的语法成分，理解起来是难点，但是不看不会影响大意的理解。

　　宁波环球教育徐珍老师再来用雅思真题举个例子。这是剑5 Test3 里的一道heading题，原文是这样的：

　　The fertile land of the Nile delta is being eroded along Egypt's Mediterranean coast at an astounding rate,in some parts estimated at 100 meters per year. In the past, land scoured away from the coastline by the currents of the Mediterranean Sea used to be replaced by sediment brought down to the delta by the River Nile, but this is no longer happening.

　　这段话没有明显的主题句，所以我们只能通过扫读段落来把握段落大意。在这里，主谓宾用粗体字标注出来，如下：

　　The fertile land of the Nile delta is being eroded along Egypt's Mediterranean coast at an astounding rate, in some parts estimated at 100 meters per year. In the past,land scoured away from the coastline by the currents of the Mediterranean Sea used to be replaced by sediment brought down to the delta by the River Nile, but this is no longer happening.

　　通过这段话的主干内容可知，这段话的大意是：尼罗河三角洲正在被侵蚀，被卷走的昵图曾经被沉淀的泥沙补充，但是这种现象不再发生。所以，如果从以下三个heading中选一个为这段话的标题的话，a. effects of sedimentation；b. Egypt’s disappearing coastline；c. causing pollution in the Mediterranean  b比较合适。

　　通过上面的例子看出，在阅读英文段落的长句子是要将目光锁定在句子中的主语、谓语、宾语上，因为句子中的80%的信息由上述三种成分传递的，而其他成分，包括修饰性的形容词、副词、定语从句等都是用来进一步的丰富解释内容的。
